Narayan Singh Rana, the Uttaranchal
Minister of State for Culture, Pilgrimage, Military Education, Sports and
Drinking Water, has been the motivating factor in his son Jaspal Rana's
success as a renowned shooter. |

| As a coach with the Sports Authority
of India, he was instrumental in the grooming of many a player who has
reached the national level. Among these is his daughter Sushma and younger
son Subhash.
A graduate of Garhwal University,
Mr. Rana was born in 1951 in Chilmau village of Tehri Garhwal. He has received
advanced training as a commando from Germany and Moscow. He has been an
instructor for the SPG as a marksman and a bomb disposal expert.
He was elected as an MLC on the BJP
ticket to the UP Vidhan Parishad. As a social reformer, he is in favour
of prohibition and has made eradication of corruption a major objective
of his political platform.
