| Previously he was also the President
of the Uttaranchal BJP and member of the UP Vidhan Parishad. He has the
reputation of being a hardline RSS man.
After completing his basic education
in Almora, he did his post graduation in English Literature from Agra University
in 1964.
He served as a teacher for a
brief period in Etah then returned home to become a member of the RSS and
began taking active part in social movements.
He suffered incarceration during
the Emergency. A bachelor, who has adopted a simple lifestyle, he took
active part in the agitation for a separate state. He is also the author
of a number of books on the subject.
He is the founder editor of the weekly
'Parvatiya Piyush'. By virtue of having been a member of the UP State Legislative
Council, he is now a member of the interim assembly of Uttaranchal. He
also is the most senior represen- tative of the Ministry from Kumaon, and
public opinion expects him to also look after the interests of that region. |
