| He went on to do his MA from Allahabad
University. Subsequently, he completed a diploma in tourism from Prague
University.
He then joined government service.
After retirement, he began taking active interest in politics and it was
in the year 1991 that he was first elected to the UP Assembly.
He was subsequently appointed Minister
for Tourism and Culture in the Uttar Pradesh Government.
Fonia took active part in the agitation
for a separate state and had even to suffer incarceration. He has held
the post of Assistant Director in the Union Tourism Ministry, along with
many other important posts.
