Yamunotri
Yamunotri  is the source of the river Yamuna. The Yamunotri  shrine stands on the western flank of the Bandarpunch peak  (20,731 ft). The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Yamuna. The source of  the river Yamuna is the Champasar Glacier  near Yamunotri.
.....
Though it is very difficult  to reach the exact source  of  the  holy  river, pilgrims  flock to  the  shrine  which  is  open  from  May  to  November. Legend  has  it  that  a  sage, Asit Muni, used to reside  at  this  secluded  spot. The  hot springs, here,  are  also  an  attraction. The  trail  winds through  rugged  mountains and  dense  forests.  Porters  and palanquins are available on hire.
.......
The Yamunotri Shrine and the source  of  the River Yamuna  are situated opposite to Gangotri. The road bifurcates and goes on to Yamunotri  from  Dharasu,  a  place  between  Rishikesh and Uttarkashi. Yamunotri can also be visited via Mussoorie and Barkot.

Situated at an elevation of  3235 metres above sea-level, the shrine of Yamunotri is one   of the four dhams (pilgrimage sites) of  Uttarakhand. The source of the Yamuna lies about 1 km. further ahead at an  altitude of about 4421 metres. The approach is extre- mely difficult and pilgrims therefore  offer pooja at the temple, itself.
There are hot springs close to the temple. A bath there is very  refreshing after the tedious 13 kms. trek from Hanumanchatti or 5 kms from Jhanki Chatti.
