This is a cultural and historical trek
in the Jaunsar -Babar region at the foot-hills of the
Garhwal Himalayas, bet- ween the holy rivers Yamuna and the Tons.
A tribe known as the Jaunsari lives in
this region. The customs and tradi- tions of these
people are entirely different from the rest of Garhwal.
...
The practice of polygamy and polyandry prevails among them.
The villages along this trek are worth seeing, culturally and architecturally.
Clustered houses with tiled roofs match the environment. The
trek is rich in flora and fauna it is a paradise
for the ornithologist. Historically this trek has its
own significance.
...
At Kalsi, one can witness the rock inscription
of the Ashoka age in the Pali script. At Birat Khoi,
there is an epic fort, in ruins now. |
 |

this fort belonged to Maharaja Birat. Then at Lakhamandal,
